Step 1: Cut the Lumber

Using your circular saw, cut your 2×4 lumber into the following pieces:

  • 4 legs (16 inches long each)
  • 2 leg braces (11.25 inches long each)
  • 4 seat aprons (39 inches long each)
  • 2 seat supports (25 inches long each)
  • 13 seat slats (38.5 inches long each)

Step 2: Sand and Finish the Pieces

Use sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges or surfaces on your cut pieces. Then, paint or stain your pieces as desired. Let them dry completely before moving to the next step.

Step 3: Assemble the Legs and Braces

Apply a small amount of wood glue to the ends of each leg brace, and then attach them to the legs using 2.5-inch screws. Make sure the top of the brace is flush with the top of the legs. Repeat for the other set of legs and braces.

Using wood glue and screws, attach the seat aprons to the inside of the legs. Then attach the seat supports to the aprons at the halfway point. The supports should be flush with the top of the aprons.

Starting from the back of the bench, lay the seat slats on top of the seat supports, leaving an even gap between each slat. Attach the slats to the supports and the aprons using screws or nails.
